ASEAN Para Games 2022: Vietnamese Teams' Successful Start with 12 Gold Medals and 3 Records
The medalists are from the swimming, track and field, and weightlifting team, marking Vietnam's successful beginning. On the first day, there are also 3 records set by the Vietnamese teams.
The 2022 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 11th ASEAN Para Games, or Surakarta 2022, is an ongoing biannual multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities is being held from 30 July to 6 August 2022 in Surakarta, Indonesia. The number of Vietnamese athletes with disabilities attending is 155, according to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Vietnamese delegation will include one guiding athlete, 18 coaches, two doctors, and 13 support personnel. The rest are Vietnamese athletes who will compete in eight events: track and field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and archery. |
In the morning, swimmer Vo Huynh Anh Khoa won the gold medal in the men's 400m freestyle swimming race in the S8 disability swimming classification. Khoa finished in first place with a record of 5 minutes 29 seconds 35.

At the women category, also at the 400m freestyle swimming race in the S8 disability swimming classification, swimmer Le Thi Dung won the gold medal after finishing the race at 5 minutes 59 seconds 87, breaking the old record of the Games (7 minutes 24 seconds 10). She also continued to finish first in the women's 100m freestyle swimwear (S8 category) with a record of 1 minute 19 seconds 92.
In the men's 100m breaststroke race (S13 category), athlete Tran Quoc Phi won gold with a time of 1 minute 14 seconds 80. In the women's 100 m freestyle swim, disabled S7, athlete Vi Thi Hang won gold with a record. 1 minute 20 seconds 42.
Swimmer Vo Thanh Tung won first place in the final of the men's 50m backstroke in the S5 category. This is the 6th gold medal of the Vietnamese disabled swimming team with a record of 42 seconds 17.
In addition, the Vietnamese swimming team also won 4 silvers and 5 bronzes, of which 2 silvers in the men's 400 m freestyle, 1 silver in the men's 100 m freestyle and 1 silver in the men's freestyle, medley 4x100 m relay.
Female weightlifters Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan and Dang Thi Linh Phuong won two gold medals in the 50kg and 55kg weight categories with a record of 104 kg and 101 kg, respectively, and broke the old records of the Games (103 kg and 100 kg, respectively). Another medalist in female weightlifting is athlete Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy who won silver in the 61kg category.

The Vietnamese track and field team won 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. In particular, in the F37 women's discus throw, athlete Ha Thi Hue won gold with a record of 18.19 m. Athlete Kieu Minh Trung won gold in the men's javelin throw in the F55 category with a record of 26.75 m.
Athlete Tran Van Nguyen won the first place in the men's discus throw in the F40 category with a record of 24.86 m, while athlete Nguyen Thi Hai finished first in the women's discus throw in the F57 category with a record of 8.38 m. .
On the same day, the Vietnamese table tennis team won 4 bronze medals in the team content.
