Ba Den Mountain – A Perfect Destination For Escaping Summer Heat
Just over 100km from Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Den Mountain is also known as the “roof of the South" with an altitude of 986 m above sea level. This place is surrounded by the primeval forests of Heo and Phung mountains, which granted the cool atmosphere all year round, and the temperature is lower than Tay Ninh City and neighboring provinces about 8-10 degrees Celsius. In the evening, the air is much cooler, and the mountain is cold and windy.
In recent days, when the temperature in Vietnam can reach 42 Celcius Degrees, travelers flock to Ba Den mountain to get away from the burning heat, explore nature and participate in a lot of fun activities and traveling events here.
Trekking and conquering the mountains

There is a cable car system that helps a lot of tourists to move up to the top of the mountain, but those who love adventuring and challenging themselves can still choose to trek their way through the forests and large rocks to touch the spire 986 m on the top of the mountain. Moreover, the mountain air is cool and fresh and there are shady trees, making the trekking route even more satisfying and comfortable.
The mountain has the shape of an upside-down cone, so the road to the top of the mountain is quite steep and difficult to climb. Visitors can choose different routes such as Ba Pagoda Street, Electric Pole Street, and Ma Thien Lanh Street. Meanwhile, the electric pole road is chosen by many young people since it's easier to track and not too dangerous.
From the foot of the mountain, travelers just need to follow the road and count more than 100 electric poles before they reach the destination, which will take about 2 or 3 hours. When you count to the 55th electric pole, there will be a small ravine and large rocks, where people can rest, drink water and wash their faces.

Nguyen Huynh, an experienced trekker, and tourist who often visits Ba Den mountain, said this sport brings him exciting challenges and new experiences during the journey. Each route has its own unique beauty. The rows of many years old trees standing along the road create beautiful natural scenery, chasing away the feeling of fatigue while trekking.
“When you go trekking, you will have a chance to see the beautiful animals in the forests and the majestic scenery surrounding the mountain. The best experience is to go beyond your expectations and conquer a new land. The atmosphere is cool, which makes this place a wonderful destination for you to escape the summer heat and relax," he said.
Before trekking, tourists need to prepare some necessary equipment such as mosquito repellent, sticks, gloves, knee pads, hats, and jackets to protect their skin from the sun. Do not forget to bring foods and sweet candies to prevent hypoglycemia.

“If you choose to trek by the electric pole road or Ma Thien Lanh, remember to bring a lot of mineral water bottles since there will be no stops or grocery stores to sell water along the way. It is not recommended to wear sports shoes, it is best to choose trekking shoes with good grip to limit your chance of slipping and hurting yourself," Nguyen Huynh said.
From the top of the mountain, you can see the everlasting rice fields and the house roofs of the villagers in Tay Ninh. The cool air and beautiful scenery on Ba Den Mountain also help you forget all your troubles and immerse yourself in majestic nature.
“Cloud hunting” in the early morning
Immersing yourself in the sea of fluffy, thick layers of clouds is also a unique experience that you can also have in Ba Den Mountain.
From the peak, tourists will have a chance to witness the clouds from a close distance. When the dawn rises, the sea of clouds is revealed, along with a thin veil of morning fog. The blue color of the sky, the golden sun, and the white beautiful clouds combined together to create a satisfying scenery.

The best time to go cloud hunting is in the dry season, from December to May next year. At this time, the weather on the mountain is stable, with little rain and wind, and often cloudy. If you come here after the rain, there will be less chance for you to witness the sea of clouds.
Talking about the experience of going cloud hunting on Ba Den mountain, Nguyen Thanh Ngan, a female tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, shared her admiration for the great mountain.
“The weather in HCM is too hot and unbearable, so I often come here with my friends since it only takes about 2-3 hours driving. It is still extremely hot around Tay Ninh, but the atmosphere is surprisingly cool when you are in the mountain.”

To add to this interesting cloud-hunting trip, tourists can climb up to Ba Den in the evening, bring tents with snacks, and have a night camp. In the morning, you just have to step out from inside the tent to be able to witness the flowing clouds and feel the first rays of sunshine warm your skin.
Other places such as the station and the Buddhist art gallery along with the cool natural scenery and fresh air have contributed to enticing visitors to Ba Den Mountain.
Hang Chua cable car route includes 78 cars with a total length of 1,246m, which will take tourists up to visit the spiritual cultural complex. From the cable car, visitors can see the entire system of pagodas on Nui Ba including Trung Pagoda, Quan Am Pagoda, Hang Pagoda, Ba Pagoda, and Kim Quang Cave which are located in the middle of the majestic mountain.
The statue of Buddha Shakyamuni entering nirvana, lying on the mountainside, or Dai Hong Chung which weighs six tons also is an attraction for visitors going to this mountain.
