Bunpimay Festival of Lao Groups in Hanoi

On April 6 in Hanoi, the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Vietnam held a ceremony to celebrate the Bunpimay 2567, traditional New Year according to the Buddhist calendar of the people of Lao.

Attending the ceremony, present on the Vietnamese side were Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the CPV's Central Organization Commission; Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Tran Luu Quang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Bui Thanh Son, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Dac Vinh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Culture and Education Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association.

Representatives of central and local ministries, departments, units, veterans, former volunteer soldiers, and Vietnamese military experts who joined hands with Lao in the country's revolution also attended the ceremony.

On the Lao side, there were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh, embassy staff, and Lao students in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang extended his greetings for a new year of good health, happiness, and success to the leaders of the Party, State and brotherly people of Laos. He conveyed his pride in the achievements that the Party, State, and people of Laos have achieved over the years. He believes that Laos will continue to succeed in building a country of peace, independence, democracy, unity, and prosperity. Laos will successfully assume ASEAN 2024 Chairmanship and AIPA 45 Chairmanship, contributing to enhancing the role and position of Laos in the region and the world and actively contributing to building an increasingly stronger ASEAN Community.

According to Nguyen Xuan Thang, Vietnam, and Laos are neighboring countries with a special, unique relationship that is created, nurtured, and developed by sincerity, faithful love, genuine support, goodwill, valuable help, and a spirit of willingness to sacrifice for each other between the two Parties, States and Peoples.

2023 marks a thriving year in Vietnam - Laos cooperation. The two sides have closely coordinated and effectively implemented high-level agreements and cooperative projects with a new spirit and determination. Trusting and close political relations are increasingly consolidated. Senior leaders and other levels of both sides meet and discuss more frequently. Defense and security cooperation is increasingly developing deeply, substantively, and effectively. Economic cooperation continues to have positive changes. Cooperation quality in education, science and technology, health, culture, and society has been improved.

Nguyen Xuan Thang believes that the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos will continue to develop with many new achievements. He affirmed that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam are faithful, always stay side by side with the Party, State, and people of Laos, determined to preserve and develop the brotherly relations that will never fade.

Ambassador Khamphao Ernthavanh thanked the senior leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, ministries, departments, central and local branches for attending the ceremony. At the 2567 Bunpimay New Year celebration, ceremonies imbued with the traditional culture of the Lao people took place such as wrist tying and water splashing ceremony.
