The seminar also helped students better understand the meaning and importance of maintaining and developing the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.

Speaking at the seminar, Nguyen Thuc Hien, vice chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, affirmed the similarity in culture and understanding between the two countries.

He said that the common interests and good friendship between the two peoples promoted the cooperative and friendly relations between Vietnam and Japan.

From a local perspective, Can Tho City established cooperative relations with three Japanese localities, namely Hyogo Prefecture, Okayama City and Nasushiobara City in Tochigi Province.

According to Hien, in order to promote cooperation with Japan, Can Tho City's government also set up Japan Desk offices in Can Tho, in Tokyo and Osaka.

Japan Desk aims to provide information on the investment environment, projects and fields that Can Tho is calling for Japanese investors, as well as to promptly support to remove difficulties and obstacles for Japanese enterprises doing business in Can Tho City.

Besides, the city also set aside a land area of 30 hectares to establish the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Industrial Park.

At the seminar, many delegates said that although there are many advantages in terms of development, the attraction of Japanese investors to Can Tho is still quite modest.

Accordingly, the whole city has only 6 direct investors from Japan with a total registered investment capital of about US$1.35 billion.

In 2022, the import and export turnover of goods with Japan is US$233 million. In the first four months of 2023, import-export turnover with Japan is only about US$50 million.

As one of three localities that signed a memorandum of cooperation with Can Tho City, Watanabe Michitaro, mayor of Nasushiobara City, Japan appreciated the young and abundant human resources of Vietnam and Can Tho city particularly.

According to Watanabe Michitaro, in order to further increase the competitive advantage in human resources, Vietnamese workers need to be disciplined at work.

Toshiyuki Ishii, Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company wants Vietnamese workers to have a punctual working style and standard production. Toshiyuki Ishii also wants workers in the Mekong Delta to focus on developing science and technology, which is a key factor to meet job requirements in the new era.
