(VNF) - Canada will support Vietnam to successfully fulfill the task of hosting APEC 2017, said Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Ping Kitnikone.

The newly-appointed diplomat made the statement at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh in Hanoi on February 7.

From Kitnikone's points of view, APEC 2017 would open new opportunities for both countries in developing sustainable and effective regional and bilateral partnerships.

Canada will support Vietnam in hosting the upcoming event of APEC, said the Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam, stressing that robust growth of socio-economic cooperation during past years would help strengthen comprehensive ties between the two countries.

Deputy PM Minh, for his part, expressed his delights to witness the progress in bilateral trade and development cooperation recently. He also took the chance to ask Canada to further their supports for Vietnam in coping with climate change.

In addition, Minh stated that with current prospective, Vietnam and Canada should strive to raise the bilateral ties to higher level, as well as tighten coordination in multilateral forum, working toward a world of peace, stability and cooperation.

Since 1990, Canada has contributed over CAD$1.3 billion towards Vietnam’s development through bilateral cooperation, regional programming and multilateral cooperation. In over the last 17 years, the country has been providing Vietnam significant supports in developing policy & legislative work, promoting entrepreneurship & small and medium enterprises, improving agricultural value chain, enhancing employment skills and adaptation to climate change./.
