Canada's Foreign Minister headed to Indonesia, Vietnam to boost ties

Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister is traveling to Asia for meetings to expand partnerships and engage with nations as part of the government's upcoming Canadian Indo-Pacific Strategy.
A statement released from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) stated that Canada and the Indo-Pacific region share similarities in history, culture and have close people-to-people ties.
GAC highlights the prosperity, security and well-being of Canadians who are and will be increasingly linked to economic, social and political developments in the Indo-Pacific region. Additionally, the meeting is further proof that Canada is committed to adding diplomatic, commercial, and economic ties in the region.
During her visit to Indonesia and Vietnam , Foreign Minister Joly will also discuss pressing challenges on a global scale, including the need for a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine and efforts to of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to address the ongoing crisis in Myanmar.
She says she will visit Indonesia and Vietnam, according to the press release.
Foreign Minister Melanie Joly emphasized: “Canada is a strong, reliable and effective partner of Indonesia, Vietnam and ASEAN. We celebrate decades of partnership and this time is a great opportunity to reflect on our experiences and achievements. I look forward to visiting Indonesia and Vietnam to better understand the region, expand partnerships and successfully contribute to a safer, more resilient, inclusive and sustainable Indo-Pacific because interests of all citizens."
She believes that the prosperity, security and well-being of Canadians will be linked to economic, social and political developments of the Indo-Pacific region.
Melanie Joly is to meet in Jakarta with her Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, with stakeholders on policy and regional security in the Indo-Pacific, and with feminist leaders supporting gender equality and women's empowerment.
In Hanoi, Joly is to meet with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other Vietnamese officials to underscore Canada and Vietnam's ties in the lead-up to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2023.
She is also to visit the province of Thai Nguyen to meet with ethnic minority women and learn more about how Canada's development assistance is helping to strengthen women-led businesses.
“I look forward to visiting Indonesia and Vietnam to gain a better understanding of the region, to expand partnerships and to contribute successfully to a more secure, resilient, inclusive and sustainable Indo-Pacific for the benefit of all people,” she said in a release.
Foreign Minister Joly will be traveling from April 9 to 14.
