Combating IUU Fishing Must Be Drastic, Synchronous, Comprehensive, Timely and Effective
The Coast Guard Command's Steering Committee on illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing on April 16 held a conference to evaluate the results of implementing the activities against IUU fishing, preventing Vietnamese fishing vessels from violating foreign waters in March 2024.
A report evaluating implementation results over the past time, under the direction and management of the Joint Command, coordination, and synergy with the Command in the field and relevant authorities of the localities, the Joint Command has complied and strictly implemented the instructions of superiors, maintained a serious on-duty system, monitored, directed and managed the forces to complete assigned tasks.

Notably, maintaining good communication between command posts and forces smoothly, managing the activities of anti-IUU fishing forces to ensure "drastic, synchronous, comprehensive, timely and effective," effectively deploy monitoring, management and supervision of the situation of fishing vessels operating in bordering areas and assign field management of bordering sea areas to each force participating in the implementation IUU tasks such as navy, coast guards, fisheries resources surveillance, or border guards, promptly exchange information, coordinate to handle situations occurring at sea, especially timely coordinate monitoring and reminding Vietnamese vessels operating in overlapping sea areas and waters adjacent to other countries, not to cross into foreign waters.
Speaking after the conference, Senior Colonel Le Dinh Cuong, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Coast Guard, Head of the CGC's Steering Committee on IUU, acknowledged the hardship of the forces, especially those who are directly implementing perform tasks on the ground, and praise the results and achievements that the Joint Command has implemented in recent times.
At the same time, he requests that in the coming time, the Joint Command closely coordinate with agencies, units and localities to do a good job of communications, especially disseminating the law on combating IUU fishing, and thoroughly implementing it. Simultaneously, implementing 32-CT/TW dated April 10, 2024 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in combating IUU fishing and sustainably developing the fisheries sector, through activities specific and practical.
Another task is to strictly maintain forces and vehicles on duty, patrol, inspect, strictly track, and coordinate with functional forces to receive information and quickly handle situations; closely monitor and supervise the activities of fishing vessels going to and from adjacent areas; arrange and uses forces to ensure coverage of the borderline, preventing Vietnamese fishing vessels from violating foreign waters; contributing to quickly removing the yellow card and ensure sustainable fisheries development.
