Coronavirus found on the chicken wings imported from Brazil

Novel coronavirus has been detected on imported frozen chicken wings in Shenzhen, South China’s Guangdong Province, local authorities said on 13 August morning, adding that the product originated from Brazil.

The local center for disease control and prevention tested for the virus on the surface of the sample product from the South American country, and its nucleic acid test result came back positive. All personnel who may have touched the product in question have received nucleic acid tests, according to the local authority.

The results for the personnel were negative, and all the related products in stock were sealed off, while products that had already been sold were traced and handled by the relevant authority.

China found Coronavirus on shrimps from Ecuador

A city in China's eastern Anhui province found the novel coronavirus on the packaging of shrimps from Ecuador, state media reported on 12 August, in the latest instance of the virus being detected on imported products.

The coronavirus was found on the outer packaging of frozen shrimps bought by a restaurant in Wuhu city when local authorities carried out a routine inspection, CCTV, China's state television, said.

The news broke a day after a port city in eastern Shandong province said it found the virus on the packaging of imported frozen seafood, although it did not say where it originated.

CCTV said on 12 Aug the Wuhu restaurant had stored the contaminated products in a freezer since purchase and that all related products in the city had been sealed off.

Nucleic acid tests for the virus on workers, food and inside the restaurant, as well as for staff at a shrimp wholesale company and their family members showed negative results, as did tests carried out on staff, food and the environment at other restaurants in the city that bought shrimps from the wholesale company.

The novel coronavirus is detected on imported frozen seafood in Dalian, China

Authorities in China have found the novel coronavirus on the packaging of imported frozen seafood that arrived from the port city of Dalian, which recently battled a surge of COVID-19 cases, a local government said on 11 August

The virus was found on the outer packaging of frozen seafood bought by three companies in Yantai, a port city in eastern Shandong province. The Yantai city government said in a statement the seafood was from an imported shipment that landed at Dalian but did not say where it originated.

Since the beginning of July, seven cities in China have reported detecting the virus on packaging of frozen seafood, according to media reports. Some health experts explained that the reason for this is that the COVID-19 epidemic is still severely affecting many countries.

Procedures for packing frozen seafood means it is more likely to be contaminated, and the products are usually stocked in a low temperature environment, which may give the virus a more conducive environment in which to exist, some experts said.
