A delegation of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam led by Ambassador Orlando Nicolás Hernández Guillén on November 6 visited the central province of Nghe An.

While in Nghe An, the delegation visited the medical facility of Nghi Phong commune, Nghi Loc district, where local residents are inoculated with Cuba’s Covid-19 vaccine.

They also toured the National Special National Relic Site Commemorating President Ho Chi Minh in his hometown of Kim Lien village, Nam Dan district.

Over the past 60 years, the solidarity and fraternity between Vietnam and Cuba founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President Fidel Castro has grown continuously.

Castro is quite beloved in Vietnam for his passion of the Asian nation. The Cuban leader famously said, “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its blood.” This epic quote has been in the mind of generations of Vietnamese, as it demonstrates the fraternity and comradeship between the two countries during the past war as well as the present cause of national construction and reform.

Amid the complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam and Cuba have maintained their solidarity and mutual support. Cuba has sent experts to the Southeast Asian nation to share experience in the pandemic fight and presented Vietnam with thousands of vaccine doses and treatment drugs. For its part, Vietnam also sent 5,000 tonnes of rice and medical supplies to the Caribbean nation.

Nghe An province has received nearly 44,000 doses of Abdala Covid-19 vaccine produced by Cuba.

Cuba approved emergency use of the Abdala vaccine in July after manufacturers said it was more than 92 percent effective with three doses.

Abdala is the eighth Covid-19 vaccine approved for emergency use in Vietnam. The others are the U.K.'s AstraZeneca, the U.S.'s Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, Russia's SputnikV, China's Sinopharm, and the UAE's Hayat-Vax.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai has also agreed to release funds for the purchase, transportation and delivery of five million doses of Covid-19 vaccine Abdala produced by the Cuban Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

The total expense is VND742.62 billion (US$32.6 million), taken from the National Covid-19 Vaccine Fund./.
