Da Nang city receives over 153,000 units of blood
From 2011 to 2015, Da Nang city collected 153,043 units of blood, an excess of 26,034 units compared to the target set by the city People’s Committee, satisfying 100% of blood demand for emergency and treatment across the city’s hospitals.
The information was announced during a meeting of the city’s steering committee on humanitarian blood donation held on April 7th.
According to the committee, in 2015, 3.67% of the city’s population donated blood while the rate for the whole country was 1.46%, making the city a leading locality in terms of humanitarian blood donation since 2010.
Over the past years, humanitarian blood donation models have been efficiently promoted. So far the city has established 15 reserve blood donation teams with 1,357 members, 8 blood donation clubs and 25 blood donation teams with 153 members.
In 2015 alone, reserve blood donation teams donated over 3,400 units of blood to save seriously ill patients.
During the meeting, Dang Viet Dung, Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee and Head of the steering committee on humanitarian blood donation, praised the good deed of collectives, inpiduals and people. “Their good deeds have saved a lot of patients and brought happiness to them,” he said.
He asked for the establishment of a living bank of blood to better blood donation.
The meeting honoured 31 collectives who had made excellent achievements in encouraging people to donate blood, and 15 families and 66 inpiduals who had donated blood 20 times or more./.
