National ability to detect and identify gifted people is still weak

Since the 11th Congress, Vietnam's Party has identified three strategic breakthroughs, in which the development of human resources, especially high-quality human resources, has created a fundamental, strong, comprehensive change in the quality of education and training associated with the mechanism of recruiting and treating talented people.

Recently, the XIII Congress of the Party has continued to inherit and develop the above contents. In the report on the XIII Congress, General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized: "human resources are the key importance".

According to Ph.D. Nguyen Tung Lam, a gifted person is a person with moral qualities; be able to create, give directions for specific problem development, and be capable of solving actual problems in existing conditions; have faith, career aspirations, distribution to the construction, organizational and social development at a given time and in the future. "In my opinion, we are functioning gifted schools not in a good way. We are focusing too much on national and international exams ... which is necessary but not the only criteria to define the gifted. What we have to do is to turn those schools to cradle to foster talent ", Ph.D. Nguyen Tung Lam stated his point of view.

Currently, the opinion that specialized schools are associated with only some subjects is outdated. Knowledge is synthesized, the shortcomings of specialized schools are often focused only on competitions, students on the competition teams are allowed to ignore all other subjects, causing students to lose their talent. Studies also must be practical, which the education sector is not doing well, according to Lam.

Looking forward to a national committee on high qualified human resources strategy

Ph.D. Nguyen Tung Lam frankly assesses, currently, the lower-secondary schools have not yet met the basic training objectives, leading to the fact that high schools have to re-educate students from the beginning, which will affect the career guidance process.

"Our high-quality human resources must be prepared right from the general education level, must have strict requirements on discipline and everything. Many parents now pamper their children or require schools to reduce students' homework.

It is true to reduce unnecessary pressures, but education must first meet the other needs including living conditions, safety conditions, social communication conditions ... However, people also have higher-level needs such as being respected, dedicated, recognized by society, Ph.D. Nguyen Tung Lam said.
