A memorandum of cooperation was signed at a ceremony in Hanoi on March 2, which saw the participation of South African Ambassador Vuyiswa Tulelo and IAMES Director General Le Phuoc Minh.
In her opening remarks, Tulelo said 2023 is an important year as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-South Africa diplomatic ties, noting that the activities are expected to contribute to bringing the two countries closer, towards more milestones in the bilateral cooperation.
The agreement demonstrates that the bilateral relationship has been continuously developing, the diplomat said, expressing her hope that the two countries will utilize great potential to promote their comprehensive cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, trade, and social affairs, and people-to-people exchange to strengthen their mutual understanding.

For his part, Minh affirmed that during the past three decades, Vietnam and South Africa have reaped various achievements. However, more efforts from both sides are needed as ample room remains for them to boost cooperation.
He noted that it is the right time to bring into full play opportunities to advance Vietnam-South Africa relations.
IAMES will further cooperate with the South African Embassy to serve as a bridge between the two countries, he pledged.
Under the document, the two sides will co-organize a series of activities this year, including workshops, seminars, and a contest on President Nelson Mandela, among others.
The two sides also agreed on comprehensive cooperation in training and scientific research, saying they are ready to build and implement joint research projects in this regard.
