A 28.4m bridge and a road leading to it were inaugurated in Long My commune, Giong Trom 5 district, southern Ben Tre province on October 29, with representatives from the Vietnamese foreign ministry and foreign diplomatic representative offices attending the ceremony.

The project has a total funding of 1.7 billion VND (roughly 73,300 USD), of which 1.07 billion VND comes from the ministry, and foreign embassies and international friends through an international food festival, the “Chia se-Sharing” Group run by Mai Thi Hanh, spouse of former State President Truong Tan Sang, Service Company to Foreign Missions (Fosco), and the family of Tran Van Dang in Phuoc Long commune, Giong Trom district. The remainder is contributed by local residents.

Prominent among the delegates at the inauguration ceremony was Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga, Honorary Chairwoman of the ASEAN Women’s Circle of Hanoi; Ambassador of Palestine Saadi Salama, head of the diplomatic corps; and officials from foreign diplomatic representative offices in Vietnam.

Dien Biec 5 Bridge is expected to facilitate travel and exchange between Long My and Phuoc Long communes in Giong Trom, and the development of the entire district in general.

In her remarks, Nga said Giong Trom is home to various historical relic sites that witnessed the two major resistance wars of Vietnam, and the birthplace of many famous generals.

The ambassador expressed her hope that the bridge will help to raise the living standards of local residents.
