Enhance Friendship and Cooperation Between Vietnam and China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

At the invitation of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and the People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, from December 2-8, a delegation of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association led by Nguyen Van Tho, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, former Vietnamese Ambassador to China, Vice President of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association visited and worked in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The delegation included representatives from Bac Giang, Cao Bang, Dien Bien, Hai Duong, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Lang Son, and Nghe An provinces.

The visit contributes to enhancing mutual understanding and deepening the social foundation of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China, especially between Vietnamese localities and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

During the working trip, the delegation met with representatives of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region's leadership, Foreign Affairs Agencies, and the People's Foreign Friendship Associations of Nanning, Baise, Jingxi, Liuzhou, and Guilin. They also visited historical sites where President Ho Chi Minh lived and carried out revolutionary activities in Guangxi.

Throughout the meetings, both sides discussed the broader Vietnam-China relationship and specifically the ties between Vietnam and Guangxi. They highly appreciated the historical significance of the sites where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in Guangxi, which stand as a testament to the friendship of "comrades and brothers" between the two nations. These monuments also serve to educate the younger generation on preserving, promoting, and further strengthening the fine traditional friendship between Vietnam and China.

At the reception by He Xinxing, Vice Chairman of the People's Political Consultative Conference of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on December 4, in Nanning City, Nguyen Van Tho expressed his joy at the development of Vietnam-China relations in recent years.

He emphasized the need for both sides to continue to preserve the "comrades and brothers" relationship between the two countries established by President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong, and nurtured by many generations of predecessors. He also thanked the respect and attention of the Chinese government and people in general and the government and people of Guangxi in particular in the work of preserving and restoring historical relics related to President Ho Chi Minh. This act contributes to the longevity of the Vietnam-China friendship, which will remains forever green, forever sustainable, he said.

In 2024, the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to China to carry out revolutionary activities will be celebrated. 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations, is the Vietnam-China "Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange". Vietnam and China need to implement the agreements and common perceptions of the two countries' senior leaders on enhancing exchanges and cooperation, promoting mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples.

During their working trip, the delegation visited several significant sites associated with President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary activities in Guangxi from 1938 to 1942. These included: Ho Chi Minh Memorial House with the Choang ethnic group, Ho Chi Minh Cave at Fudong Mountain (where he stayed in 1941), Former residence of President Ho Chi Minh in Liuzhou City (where he lived and worked from 1943-1944), Eighth Route Army Office (where he worked in 1938), Nanning Duc Tai School, Duc Tai School in Guilin (a Vietnamese school established with China's help in Guangxi; between 1951 and 1975, the school educated more than 14,000 Vietnamese students, many of whom later held significant positions in Vietnam's Party and State), Nan Xishan Hospital (which treated over 5,400 wounded and sick Vietnamese soldiers from 1969-1975).

Additionally, the delegation explored and learned about the local culture.

The visit was highly appreciated and positively received by the localities of Guangxi, China. On the same day, Guangxi Television and the Nan Xishan Hospital's website reported on the delegation's activities.
