According to informations released in ENV’s fanpage, the macaque was imprisoned in a cage at a church in Xuyen Moc district.
But after receiving the info ENV were able to work with the local Forest Protection Department and the priest to get the primate voluntarily transferred to the authorities. The macaque was later released into Long My protected forest area.
Earlier, a multi-national effort has sprung a pig-tailed macaque from illegal captivity at a residence in Ho Chi Minh City.
The report to the ENV wildlife hotline pinged its way to Thailand and back. But as soon as ENV had the intel, they were able to zero in the Ho Chi Minh City authorities on the address in District 9. Thanks to the city’s Forest Protection Department, the macaque confiscated.
