From Lost to Found: German Tourist Thanks Vietnamese Police for Returning His Bag

Recently, the Phuc Than Commune Police (Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province) returned a black bag to Philipp Horn (born in 1991, German nationality) including hispassport, visa, his iPod headset, his plane ticket, and many foreign currencies from Japan, Korea, China, and the United States.

According to Philipp Horn, on January 23, 2025, he flew to Vietnam for sightseeing. At about 10:30 a.m. on January 30, he rode a motorbike from Mu Cang Chai district (Yen Bai province) to Sa Pa town (Lao Cai province). Arriving at Phuc Than commune (Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province), Philipp stopped and had lunch at a restaurant before continuing his journey. At about 1:30 p.m., he discovered that he had dropped his bag.

Upon receiving the report, Phuc Than Commune Police completed the initial procedures to receive the information. Determining that this was a bag belonging to a foreigner, Phuc Than Commune Police reported to the leaders of Than Uyen District Police and coordinated with the professional teams of Than Uyen District Police to mobilize officers and soldiers to check security cameras along the road where Philipp Horn dropped his bag.

By taking professional measures and investigating, at about 3:30 p.m. the same day, a resident in Phuc Than commune found and brought the bag of belongings to the Phuc Than commune police to return it to the German tourist.

After receiving all his belongings, Philipp Horn wrote a handwritten letter thanking the officers of Phuc Than Commune Police, Than Uyen District Police, and Lai Chau Provincial Police for helping him find them.
