At the meeting, the President of the Vietnam - Indonesia Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City Mai Ba Hung stressed that both Vietnam and Indonesia gained their independence from colonial rule at the same time and have now built a trusting friendly diplomatic relationship. In 2014, the two countries upgraded their relations to Strategic Partnership. This development process has been demonstrated by increasing political trust and mutual support at regional and international forums in order to maintain peace, stability, cooperation, and development.

With Indonesia holding the ASEAN Chair role in 2023, with the theme "Epicentrum of growth," the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City made much effort to promote bilateral economic cooperation and trade seminars, meetings with leaders of key economic sectors of Vietnam and the city. Also, Hung thanked the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City for its many activities like cultural and culinary events that enhance the understanding between people of the two countries.

In response, Consul General Agustaviano Sofjan also praised the vision of the revolutionary leaders of Indonesia and Vietnam, President Sukarno and President Ho Chi Minh, who passed on the dream and responsibility of building an independent country for generations of leaders of the two countries. The Indonesian diplomat highlighted several encouraging achievements of bilateral relations in many aspects such as economy, trade, education, and culture. Especially in terms of education, the Darmasiswa scholarships have been granted to 25 Vietnamese students, supporting their dreams to participate in higher education programs in Indonesia.

The painting is a vivid proof of the similarities and cultural and artistic interference between the people of the two countries, said the Indonesian diplomat.

Also at the event, the Vietnam - Indonesia Friendship Association, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City announced and awarded winners of the "Understanding diplomatic relations between Vietnam - Indonesia" contest.

Earlier this month, HUFO and the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City co-organized ASEAN Fun Walk 2023, drawing the participation of approximately 1,000 local and foreign runners. According to the organizing committee, this is a practical activity to enhance the people-to-people exchange, marking ASEAN's 56th founding anniversary, the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership, as well as Indonesia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023.
