Head of the delegation, Kamata Atsunori, Vice Chairman of JVPF, said that JVPF has coordinated with the Ha Giang provincial government to implement friendship tree planting activities in Phuong Do commune (Ha Giang city, Ha Giang province). The project has successfully planted 5 hectares of star anise trees in January 2023 and 3.5 hectares of cinnamon trees in January 2024.

He noted that this is an activity in response to the program of planting 1 billion new trees launched by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, contributing to actively supporting the protection and restoration of forests for Ha Giang province, supporting local people to have more income and develop the forest economy.

From November 4 to 6, a delegation of experts and forestry officials from Japan returned to Ha Giang with JVPF to check the development process of star anise and cinnamon trees on the planted area. The highlight of the trip included the friendship tree planting area to listen to people's opinions on tree planting activities, guiding sharing techniques for tree care and protection, and so on.

As an expert and former official of the Japan Forestry Agency, Tajima Hiroji assessed that the plants grow well, are carefully and thoughtfully cared for by local people from the way of mowing and fertilizing. There are trees that were only about 50cm tall when they were first planted, but this year they are more than 2m tall. He hopes that, after being instructed in more tree planting techniques, people will apply it well in practice, helping plants continue to grow and bring high profits.

Appreciating the effectiveness of the tree planting project that brings practical benefits to local people, Nguyen Phu Binh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association, hopes that JVPF will continue to expand more projects in other localities of Vietnam. The host said that the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association is committed to actively coordinating with the JVPF to promote people-to-people exchange activities between the two countries.

The Japan-Vietnam Friendship Peace Promotion Council (JVPF) was established in 1999. Since its establishment, JVPF has coordinated with the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association to organize many activities such as educational, cultural and artistic exchanges between Vietnam and Japan, supporting victims of chemical poisoning during war, set up a scholarship fund for ethnic minority high school students and so on.
