The "Love In Vietnam" project was officially announced at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, based on the book "Madonna In A Fur Coat." This is the first collaboration between Vietnam and India, with the participation of actors Shantanu Maheshwari, Avneet Kaur (India) and Kha Ngan (Vietnam).

The film, directed by Rahhat Shah Kazmi, tells the story of an Indian man and a Vietnamese woman. It is expected to be filmed in Da Lat, Da Nang, and Quang Nam in September 2024, with a budget of up to US $4 million and will be released in both Vietnam and India in 2025.

At the event, the two sides announced plans to make two more film projects, including a comedy and an action film. However, neither of these projects has yet announced an official film title.

Other topics of discussion at the event included co-production of films between India and Vietnam and its potentials and challenges, the influence of cinema on national development, international film distribution - globalization of domestic films. The participants from both sides also shared opinions about the role of women in cinema and importance of women in films in cooperation between India and Vietnam.

Umesh Bansal, Head of Sales at Zee Entertainment India, shared that Indian films have been popular in Vietnam since the 1970s. He also assessed that Vietnam is a country with a lot of potential to popularize Indian films. If we know how to choose the right audience, he added, there is no reason why Indian cinema cannot create a new golden age as it did in the 1970s.

Rahul Bali, curator of the Hello Vietnam Festival and producer of the Love in Vietnam project, also affirmed that the connection between cinemas is very large, so the cooperation between the two countries will bring great resonance.

On the other hand, Vietnamese director Vo Thanh Hoa shared that accessing the release and commercialization of Indian films remains a challenge for Vietnam.

Vietnamese producer Tuong Vi, who is involved in editing the script for "Love in Vietnam," said that although there has been no interaction in the film industry between the two countries, Indian television series have won over a large Vietnamese audience, especially housewives.

She believed filmmakers should focus on topics such as love, affection, family affection, overcoming social prejudices to appeal to the domestic viewers.
