(VNF) - “Reportage im Ersten — Vietnam: Long Thanh will lachen” (Long Thanh Wants to Smile), a German documentary about an Orange Agent/Dioxin victims in Vietnam, is one of eight nominations for a News and Current Affairs difficulty of a Emmy Awards this year.

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) has revealed the nominations on August 9th, one day ahead a Day for Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims (August 10th).

The 28-minute-long documentary, aired final year, was directed by Philipp Abresch, Bureau Chief of a German-based open broadcaster ARD in Singapore.

It tells a story of people unprotected to Agent Orange, a highly-toxic defoliant used by a United States infantry in Vietnam War to kill plants. Forty years later, generations of Vietnamese still suffer from Agent Orange, like 15-year old Long Thanh. However, despite the challenges he faces, he manages to live his life in an admirable way.

According to a documentary, about 3 million Vietnamese live with the effects of the herbicide, including 150,000 children with inborn malformations.

Vietnam has called on a US to take shortcoming for a problem though a US Government has deserted direct links between Agent Orange and birth defects.

The eight nominees span six countries, including Brazil, Germany, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia and the United Kingdom.

The winners will be announced on September 21st during a ceremony at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall in New York City./.
