GNI sends aid to Thanh Hoa’s storm victims

Good Neighbors International (GNI) in Vietnam has handed over relief aid to help local people in Na Meo and Son Thuy communes in north central province of Thanh Hoa to overcome consequences of natural disasters and stabilise their lives.

Receiving Official Letter No. 746 / SngV-HTQT of Thanh Hoa Department of Foreign Affairs on "Calling on foreign NGOs to support Thanh Hoa province in dealing with the consequences of natural disasters", GNI came to survey the situation of households in Na Meo and Son Thuy communes, Quan Son district.

On October 25, based on the results of the survey, GNI held a relief ceremony for 46 households that were severely damaged by the storm No. 3. Including 35 households in Na Meo commune and 11 households in Son Thuy commune. The total value of support is 525 million VND (USD 22,575).

With this aid, GNI wishes to contribute to the reconstruction of homes and the lives of households.

Storm Wipha, the third tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year, made landfall in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh on August 2 night and has weaken to a tropical depression, delivering drenching rains and strong gusts to northern and north-central localities.

Central Thanh Hoa province was hardest hit with five deaths. More than 1,100 residents were evacuated from areas at high risks of landslides and flash floods. Total property damage is estimated at around VND 136 billion (USD 5.8 million)./.
