“Tactical manual” to prepare for the historic Washington demonstration in 1971, FBI records of an anti-war leader, they are part of the collection of priceless memorabilia recently presented to the Hoa Lo relic site, by their owners.

The memorabilia handover ceremony was held on July 5, witnessed by the Vietnam – USA Society (Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations) and American friends who’ve been being part of the postwar recovery and reconciliation endeavors in Vietnam.

Introducing his memorabilia, Alexander Hing, former President of San Francisco City College Students Association, emphasized that, there was a strong anti-war movement of Asian Americans in the 60s, 70s, evoked from the awareness of racist and inhumane aspects of the war.

“However, the anti-war war movement of Asians in the US have not been widely known…That’s why I want to share my memorabilia with Vietnam,” said Alexander Hing, the activist who dared to drop out of UC Berkeley to follow the Sixties anti-war movement.

Hing’s handover to Hoa Lo were documentary, audio and various photos, posters, slogans capturing the anti-war movement of American Asians. Specially, on this occasion, he also presented to Hoa Lo relic site an audio message of President Ho Chi Minh to American people.

Dr.Judith Albert, co-founder of Yippies, an anti-war party for the youth in the 1970s brought to the ceremony her MayDay Tactical Manual, in which the activities, timeline, and locations of demonstration were described in details “One of our purpose was to paralyze Washington D.C, in order to delay the war as long as possible,” said Judith. The lady also brought to the museum a special photo, in which she was at her late 20s, carrying a drum in an anti-war marching protest in Miami.

Head of the delegation, Frank Joyce, a lifelong Detroit based writer and activist, leaders of several peace, anti-racist and civilized movements presented to Hoa Lo his exclusive memorabilia, including a 1971 self-made calendar, a US Indochina Report and files of FBI, CIA records.

Receiving the memorabilia, Vice Head of the Hoa Lo Relic management board, Dao Thi Hue expressed the appreciation for the supports of American peace activists.

She emphasized: Without the help of American friends, we would have never known about the priceless memorabilia like documentary capturing the antiwar movement of American Asians or the audio message of Uncle Ho.

The memorabilia also gives Hoa Lo Relic site useful guidelines for admendment, arrangement and exhibition work in the next two years, she added.

On behalf of Hoa Lo Relic management board, she voiced the promise to thoroughly study the memorabilia, in order to make the best use of them, helping more international and local visitors gain insights of the anti-war movement.

Furthermore, she expressed the hope that American peace activists will keep supporting staff of Hoa Lo relic in the coming time.
