Great Potentials for Cooperation Between Vietnam and Lombardia, Italy
Pleased at the extensive development of Vietnam-Italy relations, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet welcomed the first visit to Vietnam of Attilio Fontana and the Lombardia Region delegation, stating that the visit takes place as the two countries celebrate their 50 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership. It follows the state visit to Italy by President Vo Van Thuong last July.
With such significance, the visit will contribute to concretizing and implementing the results achieved during the President's visit, thereby deepening the Vietnam - Italy strategic partnership.
Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet said the Vietnamese Government continues to prioritize implementing three strategic breakthroughs, strengthening international integration, and taking advantage of new driving forces for rapid and sustainable development. On that basis, the Deputy Minister proposed that the Italian Government, namely the Lombardia region strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in areas where both sides have strengths and demand such as high technology, green transformation, digital transformation, and innovation.

With a potential market and a growing middle class, the two sides will continue to promote trade and investment exchanges, taking advantage of the EVFTA Agreement.
Confirming that cultural exchange and cooperation in education and training are a sustainable foundation for relations between countries, the Deputy Minister suggested that universities in Italy and the Lombardy region continue to prioritize scholarships for Vietnamese students and enhance cultural, tourism, and sports exchange activities with Vietnam.
For his part, the President of the Lombardia region expressed his impression of Vietnam's development. He said Vietnam is receiving great attention from Lombardy authorities and businesses. He highly appreciated Vietnam's commitment to sustainable development, which is a very potential field in bilateral cooperation.
As a dynamic economic region with a scale of nearly EUR 370 billion, accounting for 1/4 of Italy's GDP and ranking second in the European Union, the Lombardia region looks to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in sustainable development.
The President of Lombardia said he would strengthen partnerships among universities in research and development, and encourage businesses to promote cooperation in the manufacturing industry, automation, medicine, and establishment of research centers.
