Nguyen Thu Thuy – a Vietnamese artist famous for community art works, has opened new ceramic murals to commemorate the friendship between Vietnam and international friends along Nghi Tam street of Hanoi.

The artwork in Nghi Tam street is 18 metres long and 1.6 metres high, featuring the cultural, architectural and natural beauty of Taiwan (China).

It includes the firework showcase on the 101-storey Taipei financial centre building, panda and the Alishan National Forest along with the greenery and trains running on wooden railway. The mural is sponsored by Taiwan Excellence (an organisation for awarding made-in-Taiwan products) and is a gift for Hanoians.

Recently, the Embassy of Panama in Hanoi also unveiled a ceremic mosaic mural on natural beauty of Panama on the new wall of Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural wall.

Previously, Thuy created a mural on stunning natural and cultural beauty of Sri Lanka and initiated a ceramic road project, contributing to deepening the relationship between Vietnam and Venezuela.

The artwork which depicts many aspects of Sri Lanka’s tourist attractions from Sigiriya (also called Lion Rock or Lion Mountain) to Sri Lankan wild animals such as Ceylon leopard, peacock; elephant and local customs such as traditional Kandyan dances; stilt fishing…was designed by SLTPB and installed by Thuy and her team from New Hanoi Arts Co. Ltd.

The Hanoi Ceramic wall is one of the major projects that were developed on the occasion of the Millennial Anniversary of Hanoi City which is an art project covering a length of 4km, covering an area of 6,950 m2 of the wall. The wall is located on the dyke wall parallel to the road connecting the main access road to the International airport in Hanoi that connects the old quarter of Hanoi and the newly developed area in the city. This mosaic wall is the largest mosaic art in the world and it received recognition in October 2010 by Guinness Book of World Records for the longest mosaic mural in a public space.

With a length of 1,100m, Nghi Tam concrete wall in the future will have about 300m for works that show the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and international friends.

The mosaic mural wall is a brain child of Thuy, who is also Director of New Hanoi Arts Co. Ltd. Thuy graduated from the Hanoi Foreign Language Teacher Training University in 1992. She studied fine arts from 1992 to 2005 at artists Cong Kim Hoa and Pham Viet Cong’s studios. She became a member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in 2001.

She has made works for public art projects in Hanoi, the provinces of Thai Nguyen and Thanh Hoa, and Truong Sa (Spratly Archipelago)./.
