Addressing the Congress, Nguyen Thien Nhan said that the Politburo had appraised Lam Dong provincial Party Committee and people for their great efforts over the past 5 years, which has helped to obtain an economic growth of 14.1% per year, 2.4 time higher than the national average.

In particular, the agricultural sector has seen breakthrough development thanks to the application of high technology, which has contributed to a higher growth rate and higher value of production value. The output has helped to reduce the poverty rate from 12.6% in 2010 to below 2% in 2015.

According to Mr. Nhan, the results were brought about by an increase in the area of cultivated land to 297,000 hectares, a remarkable increase of investment capital, an increase in the quality of labourers, especially by those with skills attached to hi-tech production.

Increased applications of advanced science and technology, a link between enterprises and farmers in consumption of products, and perse policies in support of farmers put into reality, also contributed to the success in agricultural production.

Mr. Nhan emphasized two factors for success, including an increase of capital for development and the establishment of effective production foundations. Therefore, he urged the province to give a statistic in the number of farmers’ families and trade villages joining production cooperatives and teams for an increase of production efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness.

Regarding the development of the province’s Da Lat city, he affirmed that with the application of information technology, the cooperation between universities and enterprises, support from the central level and consultancy from international organizations, the building of Da Lat city into a smart modern city was totally feasible. Accordingly, it will build up smart authorities, traffic, enterprises, and so on.

In terms of weaknesses set in the political report at the Congress, Mr. Nhan urged the province to set up a public feedback mechanism so that the authority and Party organizations could know whether people agreed or not with their management activities./.
