The Consulate General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City on August 16 held a ceremony to celebrate the 58th National Day of the Republic of Singapore (August 9, 1965 - August 9, 2023).

On behalf of the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Phan Van Mai congratulated the great achievements that the Government and people of Singapore achieved during the past 6 decades.

In the process of building and developing the country, Vietnam received a lot of valuable experience from Singapore in many fields from economy-society to education-training, urban planning, and health. The work of Singaporean leaders offers substantial contribution to the socio-economic development of Vietnam.

Chairman of the City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that in the context of good relations between the two countries, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore is developing strongly in the fields of trade, investment, education-training and people-to-people exchange. Economic cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore is a notable highlight.

Currently, Singapore ranks first in the list of 120 countries and territories having direct investment in the city and is the second-largest trading partner of Ho Chi Minh City for many consecutive years.

Singapore's investment projects in Ho Chi Minh City contributed to the city's economic growth.

Over the years, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City promoted cooperation in training and developing human resources through training programs on public administration, economic development, urban management and planning, education, health, tourism, and culture.

"Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore have a lot of room for cooperation. The partnership between the city and Singapore depends on the ability of both sides to utilize similar and complementary strengths.

The experience, technology, and capital of Singapore, the market, human resources, and resources of Ho Chi Minh City will be the driving force for the two sides to strengthen and expand existing cooperation programs," said Phan Van Mai.

Speaking at the ceremony, Roy Kho Ngee Seng, consul general of the Republic of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that this year, the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Bilateral trade between the two countries had outstanding growth, reaching new heights and opening up many opportunities for businesses of both sides. Singapore is the country with the largest source of FDI into Vietnam for 3 consecutive years. That is the clearest evidence of the confidence of Singaporean businesses in the Vietnamese market.

Roy Kho Ngee Seng affirmed the enduring friendship and solid cooperation between Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City. Singapore is also the largest foreign investor in Ho Chi Minh City in the last three years.

The cooperation between the two sides has been continuously consolidated and promoted with the foundation of common values, mutual respect, as well as the desire to reach out toward common prosperity.

The relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore is close and enduring. The two cities collaborated on many initiatives to strengthen connectivity, encourage digital creativity, and create a premise for economic development.

There are many exchange delegations between the two countries. Ongoing dialogues are held to create a framework for deeper connectivity in areas such as urban planning, smart city solutions and sustainable development.
