Ceremony to mark 70th anniversary of Cuba’s Moncada Barracks attack in Ben Tre: Chairman of the Ben Tre provincial People’s Committee Tran Ngoc Tam addresses the ceremony on September 6, 2023.

The People's Committee of Ben Tre province on September 6 held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Cuban fortress, the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Moncada Village, and the inauguration of the Moncada Memorial House.

Construction of the Moncada Memorial House began in May 2020, with an area of nearly 300 square meters. This is a space to display historical documents, artifacts, and images, contributing to strengthening the connection between the people of Vietnam and Cuba. The total investment capital of the project is VND4.5 billion (US$187,032), from the local budget and contributions from party members, officials, civil servants, public employees, and armed forces in the district.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Ngoc Tam said that while Cuba has a village named Ben Tre since December 20, 1969, the province has the Moncada Village in Luong Hoa commune, Giong Trom district.

Although the two countries are far apart geographically, they always stand side by side in the cause of building and protecting socialism in each country.

The special friendship between the two countries, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro, is an invaluable asset that the Parties, States, and people of the two countries strive to preserve, protect and nurture.

Tran Ngoc Tam suggested that the next generations should work together to preserve, promote, and enrich the tradition of solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, contributing to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland in each country.
