(VNF) - Cooperations between the Vietnam Women's Union and the Cuban Women's Federation was discussed in a meeting of President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam, Lianys Torres Rivera.

At the meeting, President of VWU congratulated Ambassador Rivera on the beginning of her tenure in Vietnam and expressed the gratitude towards the Cuban people, in general and the Cuban women, in particular, for unwaveringly supporting the Vietnamese in the past and at present.

In addition, she took the occasion to express the admiration to Cuba's achievements in promoting gender equality as well as creating favorable conditions for the development of women and children.

Ambassador Rivera, for her part, extended sincere thank to VWU for the tremendous supports for Cuban women and the Cuban embassy in Vietnam in various activities.

Ambassador Rivera also proposed VWU and the Cuban Women's Federation (CWF) to ink Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), pushing forward the cooperations of the two nations to a new height, facilitating the incorporation of women issues into the two countries' joint projects.

On the occasion, President of VWU invited the Cuban Ambassador to participate in the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the historic visit made by President Fidel Castro to the liberated zone Quang Tri in Sep 2018. The visit has a special meaning for the Vietnamese people and army in the resistance war against the American for national liberation.

The VWU and the CWF has been great friends of each other. The two have been maintaining information sharing activities, holding various high-level delegation exchange to share experiences in women's movements and activities; actively participating in friendship activities held in two countries; frequently exchanging messages of congratulation, condolence, sympathy; effectively coordinating in meetings and events of the Women's International Democratic Federation.

The embassy of Cuba has been playing a significant role in assisting the information sharing between VWU and CWF and updating the VWU on the status of gender equality in Cuba as well as Cuban women's activities. The embassy also provides supports for the two sides in holding delegation exchanges./.
