India weather forecast latest, December 28: A severe cold wave to sweep over many parts of North India
According to Skymet Weather, western disturbance has reached very close to Jammu and Kashmir at this time. Its effect will also be seen in parts of North India.
A cyclonic circulation is seen over the southeastern parts of the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean region adjacent to it near the equator. The anti-cyclonic system is still visible over parts of Central India.
During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rains are likely to continue over Andaman and Nicobar Islands with few heavy to very heavy spells.
Light to moderate snowfall is expected in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Ladakh, while light to moderate rainfall is expected in the lower areas.
Light rain activities are possible at one or two places in Terai areas of Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh.
Northwest India, as well as parts of Central India, may see a rise in minimum temperature.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has predicted a severe cold wave condition in many parts of North India, said that drinking alcohol at home or year-end parties won’t be a good idea.
“Don’t drink alcohol. It reduces your body temperature,” an advisory from the IMD said.
“Get indoors. Eat vitamin-C-rich fruits and moisturize your skin regularly to counter the effects of severe cold,” the advisory further said.
In its latest impact-based advisory, the IMD said “severe” cold wave is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and northern Rajasthan from December 29.
Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the regional forecasting centre of the IMD, said the mercury will increase slightly on Sunday and Monday under the influence of a fresh western disturbance affecting the upper reaches of the Himalayas, but the relief will be short-lived.
He further said that after the western disturbance moves away and under the influence of the consequent strengthening of cold and dry north-westerly or northerly lower level winds, “cold wave” to “severe cold wave” conditions are likely to re-establish over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh from December 29.

Air pollution levels are likely to spike and ‘cold wave’ to ‘severe cold wave’ conditions are likely to set in over many parts of northwest India, including Delhi, from December 29, the India Meteorological Department has said.
Delhi recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 337 in the “very poor” category on Saturday.
Under the influence of an approaching western disturbance, widespread snowfall is very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad; scattered snowfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand; and light rain or thundershowers is likely over northern parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on December 27 and 28, the IMD said.
After the western disturbance moves away and under the influence of the consequent strengthening of cold and dry north-westerly or northerly lower level winds, “cold wave” to “severe cold wave” conditions are likely to re-establish over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh from December 29.
“The impact of the western disturbance will be mainly in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh where moderate rain or snowfall is expected. In Delhi, we can expect clouding and trace rainfall. After the WD passes, cold wave is likely to be established for three to four days from December 29 onwards. We already have very low minimum temperatures bordering cold wave conditions,” said Kuldeep Shrivastava, head, regional weather forecasting centre.
