Indian Embassy In Vietnam Commemorates Poet Tagore

On May 7, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam coordinated with the People's Committee of Bac Ninh city to celebrate the 163rd birth anniversary of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore ( May 7, 1861 - May 7, 2024) at the International Friendship Park of Bac Ninh province.

Representatives of the Indian Embassy in Vietnam, the Indian community in Hanoi, and a large number of students and people in the province attended the ceremony. Next to the statue of the great poet Tagore, many poems and songs about him were performed.

Rabindranath Tagore was one of India's greatest poets and authors. In 1913, he was the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, in which the collection "Poetry Offering" is an outstanding work. Not only a famous poet, Tagore was also a playwright, talented painter, and composer. He was also the author of the National Anthems of India and Bangladesh.

In 1929, Tagore visited Saigon. It was an important milestone showing Tagore's influence in Vietnam. Many Vietnamese scholars have researched and translated Tagore's books. His typical poetry collections are Poetry Offering, Balaca, The Gardener, Fruit Picking Season, and Birth Day. Many of his poems are also included in textbooks in Vietnam's general education program such as Clouds and Waves, Love Poem No. 28, and several others.

On October 15, 2023, the statue of the great poet Tagore was inaugurated, located at the International Friendship Park of Bac Ninh province.

This event demonstrates the precious affection that the Government and people of India have for Bac Ninh province and further promotes the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries in general and between Bac Ninh province and Indian partners in particular, in the fields of economics, trade, investment, culture, people-to-people diplomacy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Subhash Prasad Gupta, Deputy Ambassador of India to Vietnam and leaders of Bac Ninh city affirmed the close friendship between Vietnam and India in the future.

He emphasized that the inauguration of the statue of Great Poet Tagore at the International Friendship Park of Bac Ninh province on October 15, 2023, showcases the precious affection that the Government and people of India have for Bac Ninh province.

Thereby, it also contributes to promoting the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries in general and between Bac Ninh province and Indian partners in particular.
