According to Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, the festival is an opportunity for farmers to share their experiences in growing rice and producing better rice quality. It also helps preserve and promote the intangible cultural values of the traditional profession of rice cultivation.

After the ceremony, participants had the chance to enjoy other interesting activities such as watching buffalos plowing on the fields and water bailing with bamboo buckets. Especially, this event attracted a large number of international tourists participating and learning more about rice production in Vietnam. Despite the heavy rain, tourists were not afraid to wade through the mud to work as a farmer and plant rice in the fields.

Among them, a female foreign tourist named Melanie and her family from Spain wore boots, raincoats, and Non La (conical hats) as they willingly stepped down into the paddy fields with other farmers. Melanie and her children divided into two teams, scooping water into the fields with a bucket.

Aside from Melanie’s family, there were also other visitors experiencing being a farmer for one day. Farmers in Hoi An enthusiastically cheered for tourists to complete the steps of watering, plowing fields, and planting rice. Besides, Cam Chau Field Festival 2024 also serves traditional food dishes of Quang Nam, such as chicken rice, Quang noodles, and Banh Xeo.

With its old-world architecture, cobbled streets, and distinctive yellow shop fronts festooned with colorful lanterns, it’s no wonder Hoi An is considered one of the most beautiful places in all of Vietnam. In 2021, Hoi An – a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1999 − was named Asia's Leading Cultural City Destination at the World Travel Awards. Yet there’s more to it than awards and postcard-perfect beauty. The town boasts a long history of drawing people from across the world.

From the 15th to 19th centuries, Hoi An was a major Southeast Asian trading post. Here, goods were traded, and ideas and cultures were shared.

Today, tourism is the town’s major trade. But evidence of its fascinating history is everywhere. Wander any of its picturesque, pedestrian-friendly streets and you’ll see influences from a range of eras, places, and cultures. And with its many shophouses, it’s still considered a mecca for purchasing silk and other valued items.
