External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with UN Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar Julie Bishop in Delhi on Tuesday to discuss border stability, the refugee situation, transnational crime out of Myanmar, and providing economic support.

During the meeting, S Jaishankar and Julie Bishop exchanged views on the political situation.

In a post on X, Jaishankar stated, "Glad to meet UN Special Envoy of the SG on Myanmar Julie Bishop this evening in Delhi. Discussed our border stability, refugee situation, trans-national crime out of Myanmar and providing economic support. Exchanged views on the political situation."

In April last year, United NationsSecretary-General Antonio Guterresannounced the appointment of JulieBishop of Australia as his SpecialEnvoy on Myanmar.In February this year, India andMyanmar discussed possibilities inareas of pharmaceuticals, pulses &beans, petroleum products andgreater use of the recently launchedRupee-Kyat Trade SettlementMechanism to foster mutual growthThe discussion between the twocountries was attended by JitinPrasada, Union Minister of State OfCommerce and Industry and HEUMinn Minn, Deputy Minister forMinistry of Commerce, Myanmar.During the meeting, both sidesemphasised the potential forenhanced bilateral trade, according tothe Ministry of Commerce andIndustry release.
During the meeting,leaders of Indiaand Myanmar deliberated on thepotential areas of collaboration topromote bilateral trade and alsoacknowledged the importance ofresuming border trade through roadsand agreed to take steps on thisissue.(ANI)
