What is a Salmonella infection?

Salmonella bacterial infections, which causes intestinal infection can spread from the intestines into the bloodstream and other organs in the body.

The salmonella bacteria leave the body through the feces of infected people and animals. Others become infected when hands, food, or objects (contaminated with contaminated feces) are put in their mouths.

Most cases of Salmonella infection have the following signs and symptoms within 12-72 hours of exposure to the bacteria:

- Diarrhea: Loose, viscous, yellow-brown ordure, with strong smell, about 5-6 times/day

- Continuous high fever (39 or 40 degrees Celsius)

- Blood in stool.

- Abdominal pain and bloating in the right iliac fossa.

- Neurotoxicity due to Salmonella bacteria toxins (headache, insomnia, nightmares, tinnitus, slurred speech).

- Small, flat rash on chest, abdomen, flanks. The rash appears for about 7-12 days and then disappears.

- In severe cases, people infected with Salmonella have symptoms of shaking hands to catch dragonflies or lying motionless, apathetic, lethargic, lethargic, delirious, or comatose (uncommon).

In rare cases, Salmonella infection can be fatal if the person is not treated timely correctly.

However, there are some people who are infected with Salmonella, but because the body already has antibodies, the number of bacteria is small and the virulence of the bacteria is weak, so they may have digestive disorders for a few days and then go away on their own.

A very small number of them become carriers of the bacteria, which can last for many months.

What caused the salmonella outbreak?

European health officials investigating the salmonella outbreak linked to Kinder products have said they suspect it is related to buttermilk used in a Belgian factory.

A “Rapid Outbreak Assessment” released by the European Food Safety Authority and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said they had matched the same salmonella strain currently infecting people to samples taken from a factory in Belgium last December.

The report said “the processing step involving buttermilk was identified as the possible contamination point”, and hygiene measures were implemented.

It added that he factory “distributed the implicated chocolate products across Europe and globally after negative Salmonella testing”.
