Lanterns in Hoi An city

Irrespective of day or night, lanterns hung on the house or small restaurants beautify the peaceful space of the streets.

The quiet and poetic lantern adorned streets and river banks act as a major attraction for tourists.

Bamboo and silk are main materials used to produce lanterns. Bamboo used in the production is old. It is soaked in salty water 10-15 days to prevent wood-eaters.

Silk is tough enough to produce lanterns.

Lanterns are the result of interfere among different cultures. At first, they were produced to serve the demand for life; gradually, they have been made skillfully thanks to artisans’ talented hands.

On the 14^th and 15^th day of a lunar month, Hoi An organises flower garlands and coloured lanterns night festival. Rows of people come to the Hoai River banks, dropping flower garlands and lanterns across the surface of the river, paying for peace. Tourists can hire a small boat, rowing in the middle of the river and viewing sparkling lanterns.
