Lao Cai Province Boosts Education Cooperation with Canada's Locality

Within the framework of the business trip, Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee as head of the Lao Cai provincial delegation recently visited and worked with the Alberta Ministry of Education, Canada.
Joining the delegation were Vu Van Cai, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Lao Cai province, leaders of some relevant departments and branches of the province; representative of the Canadian International School – Lao Cai (CIS – Lao Cai), the first international school in the Northwest area of Vietnam.
Welcoming and working with Lao Cai province, on the side of the Ministry of Education of Alberta, there were Meghann Eagle, Executive Director of Field Services in Alberta Education and associates.

Alberta is currently the province with the highest quality of education in Canada. According to the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the scores of students in Alberta in science, math and literary are in the top 10 in the world.
At the meeting, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trinh Xuan Truong expressed his pleasure and honor to visit Alberta. On this occasion, Truong thanks the Education Minister and the Ministry of Alberta for their support in establishing the CIS - Lao Cai , contributing to improving the quality of education and training in the locality and the northwest region in general.
The CIS - Lao Cai has been authorised by the Ministry of Education of Alberta to teach the Canadian locality’s official general education curriculum. It is the 18th school of Alberta province of Canada in the world.

Truong suggested that in the coming time, Alberta will continue to support Lao Cai province to develop the CIS - Lao Cai; implementing the plan to build a vocational school according to Canadian standards in the province; supporting advanced training for local teachers through the CIS - Lao Cai by sending teachers to train directly in Canada or online.
For her part, Meghann welcomed the delegation of Lao Cai province to visit and work with the Ministry of Education of Alberta, agreeing with the suggestions of Lao Cai and pledged to continue to support the CIS - Lao Cai to operate according to the standards.

Chairman of Lao Cai People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong thanked the Alberta Ministry of Education in the past time for supporting the construction of the CIS - Lao Cai in Vietnam in general; hopes that the ministry will continue to support the CIS - Lao Cai to grow in size and ensure training quality.
He also suggests the CIS - Lao Cai to cooperate with other Alberta schools to exchange curriculum, create favorable conditions for the school to recruit students from third countries; introduce and connect Lao Cai province to build vocational schools according to Canadian standards.
On this occasion, the delegation of Lao Cai province also visited a number of schools such as Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT); Humber College in Toronto; Fanshawe College and Niagara College in Ontario.

Covering an area of 100,000 sq.m, the construction of CIS – Lao Cai started in October 2021 with a total investment of VND 500 billion (USD 21.3 million). In the first phase of the project, the primary and high school campus, an art centre, a creative science centre, a multi-purpose sports facility and an outdoor football field. All these facilities will be put into operation from the second semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. |
