Around 11am of May 11th, a large fire occurred at a warehouse located in the Dong Xuan trade centre of Vietnamese people in Berlin, Germany.

Fortunately, the fire caused no casualties, but it left huge property damages estimated at several million Euros, of which many of the victims are Vietnamese people.

The owner of the warehouse is an Indian, who has leased warehouses to store goods.

Among 23 renters of the warehouse, there are 12 Vietnamese people, many of whom suffered severe losses of hundreds of thousands of Euros due to the fire.

Unfortunately, many of them did not have insurance for their goods so they will be a dead loss.

So far, the cause of the fire is defined that someone used oxyacetylene welding equipment in the warehouse which caused a gas explosion that quickly spread the fire throughout the warehouse.

Most of goods in the warehouse were flammable such as clothing, curtains, telephone, and chemicals for nail polish, so the fire spread quickly and was impossible to control.

However, what has caused indignation among the Vietnamese community is that though firefighters were deployed to the scene immediately, they didn’t have water to extinguish the fire.

Flammable goods in combination with high winds spread the fire quickly and burned the entire two-story warehouse.

Some sources said the warehouse was leased at low cost and failed to meet standards on fire safety, therefore, all were passive when the fire occurred.

Right after the fire, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the country arrived at the scene to visit and encourage those whose goods were destroyed and to help them quickly stabilize their spirits to return to work./.
