This event pays tribute to the resilience and sacrifice of the Vietnamese people, offering a compelling artistic perspective on a tumultuous chapter of history. The exhibition seeks to deepen the international community’s understanding of this pivotal struggle for national defense through a curated collection of works.
The exhibition “VIETNAM 75” offers the German public and international friends a deeply emotional collection of paintings and photographs, arranged chronologically—from the early days of the Vietnamese Revolution to the historic moment of April 30, 1975. Each work is a testament to memory, emotion, and history, conveying the voices of those who lived through and supported Vietnam’s just resistance. Through artistic expressions, visitors can immerse themselves in the personal accounts of historical witnesses, gaining a profound understanding of this defining era.

Claudia Opitz, one of the three co-organizers of the exhibition, shared that while “VIETNAM 75” could not fully capture the horrors of war, she and her colleagues had sought to portray the long and arduous struggle that spanned decades. Joining her in this meaningful project are Peter Steiniger and Sebastian Köpcke—longtime international friends with a deep and enduring affection for Vietnam.
Beyond its historical focus, “VIETNAM 75” also celebrates the spirit of international solidarity, highlighting individuals who played a crucial role in bringing the truth about the war in Vietnam to a global audience. The exhibition dedicates significant space to honoring filmmakers from the GDR, such as Heynowski & Scheumann, as well as renowned photographer Thomas Billhardt, whose powerful images authentically captured the realities of war and the resilience of the Vietnamese people.
In an interview with VNA reporters at the exhibition, Nico, a longtime German friend of Vietnam, emphasized the profound significance of hosting the event at the Babylon Theater in central Berlin on April 30. “The exhibition offers international visitors a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the war’s causes, developments, and consequences. The information panels are thoughtfully designed, covering key historical periods—including the resistance against French colonial rule, the division of the country, escalating American involvement, and the devastating bombing campaigns targeting civilians,” he noted.
Complementing the exhibition, Babylon Cinema screened several classic Vietnamese revolutionary films, including Chi Tu Hau, Em be Ha Noi, and Lan Song Moi. With subtitles available in Vietnamese, English, and German, these screenings enable audiences from diverse backgrounds to connect with Vietnam’s national spirit and its enduring quest for independence through the powerful medium of cinema. Notably, members of the Vietnamese community in Germany—especially second- and third-generation individuals—expressed great enthusiasm at the opportunity.
