At the meeting in Hanoi on January 18, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed a delegation of OVs home for the traditional New Year, stressed that their participation in the programmer reflects their warm sentiment for and close bonds with the home country.

He affirmed that Party and State leaders highly value the OVs’ contributions to the development of the host countries.

There are approximately 4.5 million Vietnamese living and working in 103 countries and territories worldwide, with over 500,000 of them holding bachelor and higher degrees. They form an indispensable part of the nation and play an important role in intensifying friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the rest of the world.

Phuc added that he is impressed by OV communities’ efforts to preserve the Vietnamese cultural identity abroad via practical activities such as teaching Vietnamese language. According to the PM, the OVs have popularised the images of Vietnam abroad by holding events featuring Vietnamese cuisines and folk music, thus introducing the Vietnamese culture to international friends.

The Government leader also lauded the trade and consumption of Vietnamese goods abroad, as well as remittances sent to the country contributing to economic development.

He noted that Vietnam is one of the world’s top 10 recipients of remittances, and said the inflow of money is a useful resource for the country’s economic growth.

The PM expressed his belief that the country will reap greater achievements and the Vietnamese community abroad will stay united to make further contributions to the host country and the homeland in 2020.

On the occasion, he instructed ministries, agencies and localities to offer all possible supports to OVs to do business and engage in science-technology cooperation in Vietnam.

At the event, participants were treated to traditional and contemporary music performances performed by famous artists of Vietnam./.
