The request was made by members of the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee on Disaster Prevention during an urgent meeting which was convened on December 25 to discuss the impending arrival of typhoon Phanfone.

According to members, there remains 158 ships and boats who are operating in these dangerous areas. It is forecast that due to the influence of a northeast monsoon, the storm will weaken into the tropical low pressure by December 28 and will likely leave the mainland unaffected.

Vu Xuan Thanh, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, requested that localities keep a close watch on future developments of the typhoon, in addition to the northeast monsoon, in order to correctly advise fishing vessels who are operating at sea.

Thanh also asked that the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting closely monitor the typhoon’s developments and inform relevant agencies in a timely manner so they are able to promptly deal with the impact of the storm./.
