Ly Hoang Nam advances at 25th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup

(VNF) - Top Vietnamese male tennis player Ly Hoang Nam on March 18th advanced to the third round in the single men’s event and quarter-final round of double men’s event at the 25th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup in Malaysia.

As the fourth seed of the championship, the 18 years old athlete automatically passed over the first round, to playing with the youth world’s 148th Scott Jones from Australia.

He easily beat 6-1 and 6-3. In the next round, his rival is a Malaysian player, Hao Sheng Koay, 17.

In the double men’s event, Ly Hoang Nam and Alberto Lim from the Philippines, also automatically passed over the first round as being the fifth seed. The two players gained 6-3 and 6-2 victories over William Matheson (New Zealand) and Patrik Rikl (Czech Republic). In the quarter final round, their rivals are the fourth seed Yuya Ito (Japan) and Tung-lin Wu (Taiwan).

This tournament is part of Group I of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the same as Chang Thailand championships where Vietnamese star ranked second in the single men’s event and stopped his challenge in the semi-final round.

The current ITF’s ranking lists Ly Hoang Nam in the 49th position, thus paving the way for him to compete in the Senior Roland Garros - the second Grand Slam series of the year.

After ending Malaysia tour, the Tay Ninh province-original player has scheduled to team up with the national squad for Davis Cup, then youth Asia championship in India (April 13th - 18th), and forthcoming clay court games in Italy in preparations for Roland Garros./.
