The key development in the political paradigm of the country occurred amid an ongoing diplomatic row between India and Maldives over remarks made by certain ministers against Narendra Modi over his recent visit to Lakshadweep, a Union Territory that is perceived as a potential tourism rival to Maldives.
According to reports, Adam Azim emerged victorious by securing 44 percent of the votes.
MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail posted on X: "A success. An important message. congratulation."
Former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid reflected on the emotion of the moment and said people of Male showed to the President that his policy was unaccepted.
