(VNF)- Mui Ne, an alluring tourist attraction located in the central coastal province of Binh Thuan, has ranked second in the "World's 10 Best Sand-boarding Destinations" list provided by infotainment blog wonderslist.com.

Sand-boarding is similar to snowboarding, which involves riding down the slope of a sand dune with both legs strapped to a board.

"This recreational activity thrives mostly in the desert and coastal areas where there is an abundance of sand dunes," the site said.

“The Asian country displays its sand boarding culture in the Mui Ne dunes,” wonderlist wrote about Vietnam, mentioning Mui Ne, one of the country’s most famous places for sand dunes.

Sand-boarding is a popular game for tourists to the coastal tourism town in Binh Thuan Province’s Phan Thiet City, apart from kite surfing, wind surfing, and other delights the town has to offer.

It costs VND20,000 (US$0.92) to hire a plastic board with no time limit, tourists said.

However, holidaymakers, particularly foreigners, should beware as kids offering the service can be naggingly insistent on tourists trying out the game and hiring their plastic boards.

Wonderslist also recommends other places around the world like the Duna Grande in Ica, Peru; the Tattori sand dunes in Japan; the Lucky Bay sand dunes in Australia; the active Cerro Negro volcano in Nicaragua; Death Valley in Chile; deserts in the United Arab Emirates’ Dubai; dunes at Sossusvlei in Namibia; Sandmaster Park in Florence; Oregon, the U.S.; the man-made sand dunes of Hirschau in Germany; and the Great Sand Sea near Siwa, Egypt.

Earlier this year, a Mui Ne beach has been rated by the Global travel website Skyscanner as one of the 12 most stunning beaches in the Asia-Pacific region.

The beach, ranked 10th, is ideal for wind-surfing, kite-surfing and a wide array of physical activities thanks to strong gusts, big crested waves, and crystal-clear skies, Skyscanner says.

It also boasts dramatic scenery with giant sand dunes, which resembles a piece of desert next to the sea and is perfect for sandboarding and sand-trekking.

Last year, Mui Ne secured a second spot in a list of 11 most gorgeous beaches in Southeast Asia by the travel guide Canadian Travellers./.
