In Viet Tri city of the northern province of Phu Tho on May 9, head coach of the national men’s football team Park Hang-seo met with two football clubs from Youth Development Club (YDC) which were established by Good Neighbors International (GNI) in Vietnam.

The event formed part of the “Give a dream” programme initiated by the coach from the Republic of Korea (RoK), to provide equipment and support for disadvantaged children across the country to pursue their passion for football.

Coach Park also joined a football training session and played friendly matches with the students afterwards.

Various gifts were presented to needy students in Phu Tho and the neighbouring province of Tuyen Quang.

Youth Development Club (YDC) is one of extra-curricular programs of Education sector, to support children in the project areas for comprehensive development, enhancement of confidence and promotion of their talents through interest-based activities. To ensure fairness in education access, the YDC program creates an environment for children with difficulties to be involved and developed.

From January, 2016 until now, GNI has provided support to establish and operate 32 YDCs at primary and secondary schools, with nearly 1,000 students partaking, most of them are primary school students in three Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Tuyen Quang provinces.

The YDC model is to create a learning and playing environment for students, where they can freely develop their capacities in the fields such as Football, Math, English, Art, Music, Badminton, Badminton, Science.

Good Neighbors is an international humanitarian development non-government organisation in the Republic of Korea in 1991, working in 37 countries and supporting more than 9.6 million children in the world. The organisation has been active in Vietnam since 2005 focusing on such areas as child protection, education, health promotion, clean water and sanitation, livelihood development, networking, mobilisation and emergency relief.

Since Park Hang-seo became head coach of the men’s national and U23 football team, the RoK coach has helped Vietnamese football gain historic achievements, namely as the runner-up of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship in 2018, one of semi-finalists of 2018 Asian Games, and the winner of the AFF Suzuki Cup later that year.

Vietnam also entered the quarterfinals of the 2019 Asian Cup and most recently, the U23 squad won all of its matches at the qualifying round of the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

The national team will compete at the King’s Cup in Thailand from June 5-8 while the U23s will play a friendly against Myanmar on June 7 in Hanoi./.
