The delegation included Luan Thuy Duong, former Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar, Vice President of the Association, along with representatives of businesses and members of the Association.
Soe Ko Ko, Charge d'Affaires of the Myanmar Embassy to Vietnam, received the donation.
In his remarks, Chu Cong Phung highlighted that during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Association donated VND 540.070 million and essential medical supplies to the people of Myanmar through the Myanmar Embassy. Today, as Myanmar faces ongoing natural disasters, the Association upholds the spirit of solidarity and mutual support. It calls upon its members, businesses, and close friends in both Vietnam and Myanmar to continue their cooperation and contribute to these efforts.

He emphasized that, given the challenges in transporting goods from Vietnam to Myanmar, the Association has proposed a flexible approach: members and businesses in Myanmar should focus on providing direct support locally, while efforts in Vietnam should prioritize cash donations. He expressed his strong belief that Myanmar will soon overcome its hardships and recover from these natural disasters, fostering conditions for enhanced practical and effective cooperation between the two nations and the region.
Soe Ko Ko shared that the 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28 resulted in devastating losses, with over 3,600 lives lost, more than 5,000 people injured, and hundreds still missing. Infrastructure in numerous areas sustained severe damage.
He conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for the solidarity and timely, practical support extended by the Government and people of Vietnam. Rescue teams from Vietnam provided medical equipment, food, and other essentials. Additionally, many Vietnamese residents in Myanmar visited the Vietnamese Embassy to support local communities.
"The prompt assistance from the Vietnamese Government and people is a significant source of encouragement for Myanmar during these trying times, showcasing the ever-strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries," said Soe Ko Ko.
Speaking to the VietnamTimes, Chu Cong Phung emphasized that, beyond the Association's members and businesses, numerous close friends, acquaintances, and students, though not directly involved with the Association, actively contributed to the support efforts. This, he noted, reflects the profound spirit of solidarity and deep mutual affection between the two nations during challenging times. Moving forward, the Association is committed to maintaining transparency and accountability in documenting the entire process of receiving and allocating resources. This approach aims to uphold trust and responsibility toward the organizations and individuals who have stood by and supported the cause. |
