In 2023, Vietnam and Malaysia celebrate 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations (March 30, 1973-March 30, 2023) and 5 years of strategic partnership (August 2018-August 2023). In order to deepen the strong relationship of the past half century, from July 20-21, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will pay an official visit to Vietnam.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Dinh Ngoc Linh, this is Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's first visit to Vietnam since he took office in November 2022.
The visit is of great significance as it is a new milestone in the Vietnam-Malaysia Strategic Partnership, contributing to strengthening the political foundation, and adding a new impetus to promote the strategic cooperation between the two countries in all fields. The visit also contributed to tightening the relationship between the two countries' senior leaders.
Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh believed that the visit would promote essential areas of cooperation, suitable to the needs and capabilities of the two sides in traditional fields, such as economy, trade, investment, politics, diplomacy, defense, and security.
During the visit, the two countries discussed measures to promote other potential areas of cooperation such as the Halal food industry, digital transformation, digital economy, hi-tech agriculture, and cooperation in the development of marine economic sectors.
Assessing the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship, Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh said that the potential for cooperation between the two countries is still rich, promoted by the abundant and strong internal resources of each country.
Vietnam and Malaysia are close partners because of the similarity in geo-strategic location, as well as the parallel interests in the region and the world.
Therefore, despite the complicated fluctuations of the world and the region, the Ambassador believed that the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship will continue to maintain and develop effectively in all fields.

Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh also emphasized the great potential for economic cooperation. Malaysia has always remained one of the leading trade and investment partners of Vietnam in ASEAN.
With the good relationship, the Ambassador believed that the target of bilateral turnover of US$18 billion by 2025 is completely feasible.
Besides, one of the potential cooperation that Malaysia is interested in is the development of the Islamic (Halal) food industry.
Both countries have common ground in their strategy for ensuring food security by 2030.
Therefore, close cooperation in this field is a promising new direction, contributing to bringing economic cooperation to great development in the coming time.
Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh expressed confidence in the concrete and substantive results of Prime Minister Anwar's upcoming visit to Vietnam.
The Ambassador said the visit will strengthen and deepen the strategic trust between the two countries built over the past five decades.
It marks and recognizes 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Malaysia. The visit will also contribute to promoting and creating a new framework for bilateral relations across all channels.
The visit will be an important opportunity to attract more businesses from both sides to learn and invest.
It also opens up new opportunities in cooperation to respond to current international issues such as energy security, food security, climate change, and digital transformation.
Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh expected the leaders of the two sides to share and discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the promotion and cooperation of marine economic development.
They agree on major directions to enhance coordination between the two countries at regional and international forums, especially within the ASEAN framework, contributing to strengthening intra-regional solidarity and promoting the central role of ASEAN.
