Vietnam- Republic of Korea Friendship Association Thai Nguyen (VIKOFAT) and Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI), with support from Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) in Thai Nguyen, on October 5th, signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of the Viet Nam-RoK Collaboration Centre (VCC).

The centre will initiate projects to support of local people and focus on helping young students in difficult circumstances, creating an educational and developmental environment.

The VCC will play a primary role in initiating and constructing the Samsung Hope School project with total budget of some VND 22 billion (USD 950,000) over 10 years. Of this amount, USD 450,000 will be sponsored by the SEV, which includes the entire construction cost and the first year’s operating cost. The rest of the operating budget will be collected through sponsorship from charity organizations, donors and Samsung Vietnam.

The project is a part of Samsung’s effort in fostering the province’s young generation. It also serves as an appreciation campaign for locals in areas where Samsung’s factory operates.

The school will be built with modern equipment and consisting of classes (arts, music, information technology and languages), library, playground, cafeteria and washrooms. Extra-curricular activities such as interaction, healthcare and charity will also be undertaken.

By participating in Samsung Hope School programmes, these 300 provincial students will benefit from a complete educational environment, combining studies with hands-on learning as well as play.

“Through this project, Samsung wishes to help the children here improve their skills, gain more knowledge and realize their dreams of becoming model citizens, thus contributing to society,” Hyunwoo Bang, vice president of Samsung Vietnam, said. “As a large enterprise, Samsung is aware of our responsibility to the community. A philosophy which we always pursue is improving the quality of life for people living where we operate our businesses.”

The project is the second of its kind in Vietnam to be sponsored entirely by Samsung. In 2013, the first USD 300,000 Samsung Hope School, funded by donations from Samsung Electronics Korea employees, was inaugurated in Bac Ninh Province’s Lac Ve District, providing education to 200 students from elementary to high school./.
