According to VNA, speaking at the solemn ceremony held in Caracas, PSUV Vice President Jesús Faría praised the heroic martyr Nguyen Van Troi as a shining symbol of Vietnamese revolutionary heroism. The resolute image of Troi touched the hearts of millions, not only Vietnamese people but also of peace lovers worldwide, including Venezuelans.
Faría recalled the event on October 9, 1964, when Caracas guerrillas participated in the Nguyen Van Troi campaign, kidnapping US intelligence Lieutenant Colonel Michael Smolen in exchange for Troi's freedom. This event was a vivid demonstration of the international solidarity between the Venezuelan revolution and the just cause of the Vietnamese people.

He affirmed that the great achievements in Vietnam's national liberation cause were thanks to the efforts of the entire people, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the support of progressive forces around the world, including Venezuela.
During the ceremony, former female guerrilla Nancy Zambrano, who participated in the campaign, shared her memories of the Nguyen Van Troi Campaign. She affirmed that it was the solidarity with the Vietnamese people that urged her and her comrades to be ready to sacrifice to carry out this noble mission.

This campaign marked a profound milestone in the history of Vietnam - Venezuela relations, demonstrating the strong solidarity between revolutionary forces around the world and the struggle of the Vietnamese people. The Nguyen Van Troi campaign entered Vietnamese poetry through the poem "Remember My Words" by poet To Huu, as a testament to the strong international solidarity: "The Caracas guerrillas, for you, captured an American enemy in the middle of the city". |
