Nordic Development Fund urged to support Da Nang city tackling climate change
On October 27th, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang city People’s Committee Dang Viet Dung received a delegation from the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) led by Emelie Moeller, NDF Director in climate change, who is paying a working visit to the city on issues relating to NDF-sponsored projects.

According to Da Nang city People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung, under the influence of climate change, the city often faces floods and storms. The city has provided active assistance for residents in preventing and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, with one of the programs being the strategy on the prevention and coping with climate change.
He suggested the NDF and the U.S. Institute for Social and Environmental Transition continue to support Da Nang city in carrying out programs and projects on environment and climate change, pledging to create favourable condition for carrying out NDF-sponsored programs.
Emelie Moeller said that Da Nang city and some other Vietnamese localities had been supported by the NDF in implementing the national target program on climate change in the 2010-2014 period.
According to Ms. Emelie Moeller, in the next 2 years, the NDF will carry out the project to realize initiatives encouraging the building of climate change resistant houses for urban poor people, including those in Da Nang city. Through the city Women’s Union, the NDF will support 100 families’ repairing and building of storm resistant houses./.
