Number Of International Tourists Rise In Vietnam During Tet Holiday

During the Tet Holiday 2024, the number of international visitors to Vietnam increased in many localities.

During the Lunar New Year, from February 8 to 14, the country's tourism industry is estimated to welcome 10.5 million domestic visitors (an increase of 16.6% over the same period in 2023), including about 3.5 million visitors. Average room occupancy is estimated at 45 - 50% in the tourist accommodation system.

The number of international visitors has increased in many localities. Da Nang is estimated to welcome nearly 177,000 arrivals, and Hanoi welcomes nearly 103,000 visitors, an increase of 2.2 times compared to the same period in 2023. Ninh Binh is estimated to welcome nearly 100,000 visitors; Ninh Binh has 97,000 arrivals, an increase of 42%; Quang Ninh with 89,767 visitors. Ho Chi Minh City welcomes 75,000 visitors, an increase of 15.4% over the same period in 2023, and Lam Dong with 20,000 visitors.

According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the number of international visitors continues to increase compared to the Lunar New Year in 2023 thanks to favorable visa policy, efforts of businesses and localities, and effective advertisement.

During the Tet holiday, the weather is nice, with bustling tourism activities across Vietnam. Tourists tend to choose famous heritage, spiritual, and cultural destinations in different localities. Destinations in the northern mountains attract many visitors to enjoy the blooming plum, apricot, and peach blossoms. The trend of self-sufficient travel and self-booking services is increasing, especially in destinations close to the source markets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, many new tourism products with a combination of creative ideas and high technologies were introduced, along with attractive promotion programs.

Alongside, air service quality and seat numbers have been improved, meeting passengers’ demands during Tet, the authority held, adding that domestic airlines provided about 5.5 million tickets, up 4% year on year.

Some localities have cooperated with airlines and travel businesses to welcome visitors with exciting activities, creating a cheerful atmosphere on the first day of the new year. Several creative tourism products, combining high technology (light technology, 3D technology, real scenery,...) attract a large number of experiences. Some destinations have attracted a lot of tourists and entertainment such as Hanoi, Tam Chuc (Ha Nam), Trang An (Ninh Binh), Sapa (Lao Cai), Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Hoi An (Quang Nam), Da Lat (Lam Dong) and Ho Chi Minh City.

Large travel agencies have developed many new tour programs and attractive promotions, focusing on highlighting regional advantages and diversifying services to increase revenue during Tet.

Some localities with international seaports have organized to welcome visitors during Tet. Quang Ninh welcomed the Zhao Shang Yi Dun ship with 600 Chinese guests, Da Nang welcomed Zhao Shang Yi Dun and Dream Cruise ships with about 3,400 guests. Ho Chi Minh City welcomes Europa, Seabourn Encore, and Celebrity Cruises with thousands of multi-national visitors. Positive signals from cruise tourism show a prosperous year of recovery for this international tourist flow, including visitors from the traditional Chinese market.

Airlines improve service quality and add more flights to serve the needs of tourists and residents during Tet. Domestic airlines are estimated to supply about 5.5 million tickets across the domestic flight network, up 4% over the same period in 2023 and up 69% over normal days.
