Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 9 suggested Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) strengthen policy connectivity to effectively support ASEAN’s regional integration process.
Addressing the 10th CLMV Summit held virtually, the leader said it is imperative for the four countries to develop a comprehensive and specific implementation plan to achieve the goals set out in the CLMV Development Framework adopted at the summit
The countries should bring into full play the advantages of cooperation, he said, adding that efforts should be focused on facilitating the circulation of goods and services as well as and the movement of people among the four countries.
It is necessary to work closely to resolve difficulties in implementing agreements, iron out business snags, and carry out trade, investment and tourism promotions, he was cited by VOV as saying.

The countries should assist businesses to connect with each other and make full use of free trade agreements, while coordinating in developing joint projects, lobbying for international aid, and building a reference framework for vocational education quality assurance standards.
Last but not least, the leader called for strengthening connectivity, enhancing production capacity of farm produce processing and export industries, and forming regional agricultural production and supply chains.
According to Phuc, only solidarity and cooperation can help the four CLMV countries overcome difficulties and build a dynamic, prosperous and sustainable CLMV region.

At the summit, themed "Enhancing effective connectivity for regional integration,” CLMV leaders reaffirmed the long-standing traditional friendship, good neighbourliness and mutual benefits among the four member countries.
They also exchanged views on future directions of CLMV cooperation as an integral part of the ASEAN Community building, according to a press released by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The leaders reiterated the importance of CLMV cooperation in bridging the development gap within ASEAN, ensuring peace, stability, prosperity, and improved livelihoods for the people in the region, as well as constituting a crucial element in the multilateral efforts to combat and fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
They took stock of the progress made and the challenges encountered during the implementation of the CLMV Action Plan (2019-2020), which has served as an essential stepping stone for member countries to harmonize national development efforts and promote regional integration. They also recognized the setbacks caused by the pandemic in multiple aspects and further stressed the need to adapt, recover, and move CLMV cooperation forward in a comprehensive manner.
In addressing the future challenges, the leaders stressed the importance of the CLMV Action Plan (2021-2022) endorsed by the CLMV Economic Ministers in August, which specifies clear directions in trade and investment cooperation, human resources development, the implementation of regional commitments, COVID-19 recovery, and a framework for transforming the sub-region into an Advanced Global Business Hub.
They adopted three documents, comprising the joint statement on the 10th CLMV Summit, the framework for CLMV development and the list of CLMV priority projects. They agreed that Myanmar will play host to the 11th CLMV summit next year./.
